Hello all i encounter a very serious problem in my iMac 2009 27" the 8 screws that hold the lcd panel are not tighten up the screw threads have been damaged i tried to find bigger torx screws to open new threads but i didnt find anything any possible solution or fix would be very helpful because i am very dissapointed.

It sounds like your options are to:

  • Try harder to find larger screws to make new threads. It seems hard to believe that a huge store like Home Depot or Lowes wouldn't have what you need. Bring in one of the old screws and the people should be able to help you. Apologies if you've tried this already.
  • Superglue your current screws in and never be able to open up your machine again
  • Duct tape.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

What about iphone 4s screws i think are a little bigger:confused:

I've seen this before. I find it funny that the unibody aluminum case has plastic inserts that the screws screw into. Metal would be nice (although aluminum on its own would strip almost as easily as the plastic.

The other thing is to be extremely careful with torquing down the screens. Slow, small turns.
