I have replaced several LCD screens in the macbooks, most due to drops and other cracks. This however seems to be something else. I am looking for a way to test other possibilities. the entire display is backlit with exactly the bottom half of the display having lots of vertical lines, they do not respond to background image changes, moving the mouse or any other gestures. It is like the bottom half is unplugged. thoughts...

That screen is ****ed. I have had that issue before, and it was my instinct to blame something software/video hardware related, but it was the LCD.

Yup, kiss it good bye.

If you have AppleCare, they may cover it if there are no signs of user abuse/accidental cause.
