Hi All

I currently have a '16 Macbook 12" m3 8gb/256gb which works just beautifully. I do not do any video editing or anything like that, but for work I sometimes work on excel sheets, open attachments and some other light tasks. I am running out of space on the hard drive constantly, and I need something a bit more spacious.

As we all know the mighty 12" Macbook has been discontinued. I have the chance to upgrade to a 2017 8gb/512gb new in box for about $800, or I can go for a very mint 2018 Macbook Pro 8gb/512gb for $1200. I do not mind the extra weight (just 1 lb more!) and I think the touchbar is a neat touch. My one concern was the MBP keyboard, but I am only looking at the 2018 model as I have read that there was a new design that limits failures. Do the 12" MB's have a similar issue? Mine works great, and never skipped a beat.

At this point I am just trying to future-proof as much as I can. I do not mind keeping the machine for 3-4 years, but is it worth keeping the 2017 12" for that long? Or should I go with what is new/current?

Thank you for any opinions!

If you where happy with the old MB keyboard you will love the 2018 MBP keyboard.

But, given that there are potentially new MBPs being announced tomorrow why not wait a day and then decide. The price of those used MBPs are going no where but down.

I have several networked hard drives so my MB 12 and other devices don't really need extra storage.

Thanks, that would be great if they release a new MBP tomorrow. I am totally OK with the 2018 model.

I would just get an external hard drive or network attached storage, if storage space is the only issue. Maybe buy some iCloud space to offload that way

I am kind of old school, prefer everything to be on my device. Not to mention when I travel, I need my files on the fly, and rather not have another device to walk around with. Honestly upgrading my current 12" is not a big deal, I can sell what I have now and pay for the rest out of pocket.
