Switched to T-Mobile a few months back and service is absolutely terrible (in my area at least).

I live on Long Island, and I'm thinking of going back to AT&T, but Verizon has a pretty good offer of $199 for a 32GB 5s with 2-year contract. I need to have a 32GB phone...however, Verizon's bill is $10 more a month than AT&T.

Should I save $100 up front today and go with Verizon, but pay $10 more a month for their service? Or pay the extra $100 and go with AT&T, but save $10 a month on my bill?

Just trying to see if anyone in the Long Island/NYC area has any experience with Verizon's service in the area...

How is VZW's NY coverage?

I've seen some folks complain about it here.

Assuming that you already have a T-Mobile iPhone 5S, why not just unlock your current iPhone and take it to AT&T? Then no need to get a new phone from Verizon and be locked in for 2 years.

How would I go about doing that? I'd have to pay off my EIP with T-Mobile, right?

$60 for ATT prepaid, 2.5GB data and Unlimited Talk and Text, LTE Data

If the coverage is the same I would save the $10 per month.

Verizon = $100 in savings
ATT = $240 in savings (assuming you are going in to a 24 month contract).

Yes, either way if you went to AT&T/Verizon you would have to pay it off no matter what.

So do yourself a favor and go to AT&T.

You need to keep paying off your phone, either do it in full or keep paying the monthly fee for your phone. Phone + service are separate payments now.

I recomend VZW in the NYC area. There are spots on the Van Wick and parts of Brooklyn that despite ATT having signal you cannot make a call without it dropping and data unusable. I'm sure the argument can be made for VZW also but in my experience VZW has been more consistent.

I'd go with AT&T if their coverage is good in the places you want it. Ultimately, I'm interested in saving money while still keeping good coverage. AT&T works for me where I live and it's less than Verizon.

Im a Long Islander, and have had the big 3 carriers and would advise you to get AT&T. Im in the Centerport/Huntington area but even going into the city never had problems. I also enjoy AT&T corporate more than Verizon so I look at that as a plus

Verizon has a $60 loyalty and a $75 promotion plan. Both with unlimited talk and text and 2gb if you are interested.

I agree. Go with AT&T since you can use the same phone. You'll save in monthly charges by not having to buy another one and not worry about being locked into another 2 year contract. Tmobile should unlock it after you pay your EIP.

Just got off the phone with T-Mobile and paid off my EIP and remaining account balance. The rep I spoke to said he put in an unlock request for me, and I should receive an e-mail with an "unlock code" within 24 hours.

So basically, after it's unlocked I can just take my phone to an AT&T store and sign up for their $60 a month plan with my current phone, correct?

Yup. It's that easy. It's the exact same phone before the carriers lock it.

ATT has less voice compression than Verizon so voice quality is a little better if you're one of those rare individuals that still makes phone calls.

I like ATT for 2 reasons; first I can call and use data at the same time, not possible on Verizon, Second, you can use your phone on other carriers - including international carriers if you get your phone unlocked. I currently have ATT and have for about 10 years, their service and coverage is great, and I have no complaints.
