I have a 4S and now want to leave Verizon (various reasons) and I just ordered the T-Mobile iphone 6 from Apple.
Now, I have never dealt with sim cards or anything as I have always been on Verizon and only bought and used their phones.
I am confused by some of the unlock/locked issues though between carriers and phones.

1. I noticed a lot of people wanting to buy the T-Mobile phone from apple because it is "unlocked" except that it comes with a T Mobile sim card installed. It seems as though many though were not planning on using it on TM and they would just remove the card on purchase and put in their other cards (AT&T). My question is if you are just planning on using AT&T, why not just buy that one? Is it just because the only option is a 2 year contract with their phone?

2. If I am planning on using the phone for T Mobile - and I just go ahead and turn it on with the Sim card it comes with, is it then "locked" to Tmobile in the way the TM store bought phone is reportedly locked to TM?
What is done to the one at the T Mobile store that is different to make it locked if it just all depends on the Sim Card?
I would like a phone that is just not locked to anyone and my understanding is the TM Apple bought phone is not locked but people are advising to remove the card before turning it on. Does it really make a difference if I do or not?

thanks for any insight.
