They are non-toxic compared with CFLs (non mercury).
They withstand shock a LOT better than CFLs.
They don't require hi voltage supplies to drive them. (less likelihood of power-supply / modulation noise heard)
Less flicker seen, and better performance in cold temperatures.
Power consumption getting better and better - which equates to longer runtimes over CFLs.
Lower heat generation than a CFL.
Ability to space / locate as many sources as required for the display - instead of being limited by shape / length of a CFL tube.
