I was considering getting the Ledger Nano S but then was wondering why I should purchase one since the iPhone should be the safest piece of hardware for cold storage since it has a SEP.

In terms of security i.e. sandboxing + the SEP how or why would Ledger Nano S be better? The Nano Secure Element chip is just as secure?

Very little public information exists on the SEP. Only information provided by Apple. SEP patent only provides a high level overview. Doesn’t describe actual implementation details.

Most people who need cold storage seem to own a Ledger Nano. Is that because they have an Android device which is insecure and/or no iOS developer has implemented cold storage solutions using SEP? Because ultimately the use of TouchID by itself would not be considered secure for super sensitive data.
