Hiya,

The fans started screaming on my MBP during a bit of light mid-afternoon web surfing (damn flash adverts...) then noticed it was only the right hand fan. Fired up iStat and it's showing 6000rpm on the right and 0 rpm on the left. Given it a restart etc and it's still the same.

I guess the left hand fan has failed. Anyone know a way of confirming this with some diagnostics in case something else more expensive has failed? I'd also appreciate any suggestions of where I can get the replacement part in the UK.

Taa muchly in advance.

there should be a diagnostic program part of the original restore cd's.

if you still have a warranty, make an appointment.

Thanks. Are the diags included on the Snow Leopard DVD or do I need to dig out the Tiger discs?

Warranty is long expired - it's from March 2006 and I didn't buy Applecare.

You'll need to dig out the disks that came with your MBP and boot off whichever one says 'diagnostic' on it somewhere. Let it run its course.
