For some reason in getting no sound from the left mic while right is fine. Should I take it to the apple store? would I need an appointment and how much would it cost to fix?

There is only one speaker on the iPhone.

The left "grate" is a microphone. The right one is the speaker.

My mistake thanks

Thought for some reason it wasn't working. Thanks for responding without making me feel like an idiot lol

That was implied in my response. :p

Well least you didn't use certain words

Main reason I was worried as the sound didn't appear to be as strong as it has been so I thought something might of been broke.

By the way, I find it amusing you wrote left mic in your OP. ;)

Depends on what you're doing, some applications have their own volume control. I believe Apple has finally split the ringtone volume slide and general (ie: music) volume slider in iOS 5.

Wait aren't they both speakers?!?!
Well, what would be the point? An inch of separation doesn't exactly produce useful stereo, unless you balance the phone on your nose.

One speaker (both L+R channel combined into mono) and one mic. Makes sense to me on a phone. Stereo output for bluetooth and headphones/earbuds works fine.

Not good with sarcasm?
