I recently went somewhere and I guess I forgot to turn my mac off while I was there. It's been 20 hours or so. The fans are normal, its not overheated, is my mac going to be okay?

Yes, many leave their Macs on for day, weeks or months. Nothing to worry about. And instead of shutting your Mac down, you can always put it to sleep via closing the lid or :apple: > Sleep or CMD+OPTION+EJECT.

I leave mine on for weeks and it is fine. Just make sure it can breathe if it is doing something so that it doesn't overheat.

Yep it will be fine so long as none of the vents are blocked. For all intents and purposes, an iMac is basically a laptop (in that it uses a lot of laptop sized parts) and those run fine left on all the time.

Code:
uptime
20:39 up 6 days, 7:52, 2 users, load averages: 1.81 1.66 1.35

I think you're fine. That's only as low as it is because I restarted into a tool to check another drive.

Mine is always on unless I stop it to put it in a sleeve for a road trip. Of course it auto sleeps at night.

as others have said ... nothing to worry about.
right now mine has been on for 19+ days

28 days 3 hours and 7 minutes according to iStat. I NEVER shut mine down unless I'm going to be gone for more than a few days and I'm not taking my laptop. I wonder if there is a way to look at power on hours...

Wow im surprised at how long people have their laptops on  I've never had mine on for more than 20 hours haha

Me Too!!

I will typically restart mine once a week or so.. maybe more if it seems to have any 'slow running symptoms' or going for a Long Trip in my backpack..

I have done pretty much the same thing with all my three previous MBPs as well.. 'Option+Command+Eject' and off I go.. Never a problem.. :apple:

What does that command do?

Oooppps.. Sorry.. I guess I could have included that fact, so as mentioned above by "Puonti": YES, it puts it to Sleep in a fairly prompt manner..

Never had any 'wake up issues' using this method, but I am certainly no expert on The Why or Why Not on doing this..
