Hello ,
I ordered a sealed legally unlocked iphone for myself from ebay .
I just got it and it doesn't seem to work .
I inserted my sim , connected to iTunes to activate the phone and this is what it says :

The Sim Card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported .

Here is a screenie - http://i41.tinypic.com/2h5vi9z.jpg

Help appreciated .

Regards,
Tanuj

What made the phone you bought off eBay "legally" unlocked? Where did it come from?

This is the reason you don't buy expensive things off eBay. Get your money back, but I highly doubt their "very good" customer service will do anything.

Looks like whoever you bought it from ripped you off. If it says that it means it's locked. :(

Thats scary . It costed me an extra $100 .

The listing said so .
This is what it said

100% Genuine Brand New iPhone 3G 8GB BLACK

STILL SEALED & is Legally FULLY UNLOCKED by Apple PERMANENTLY!

As the IMEI number has been registered with the Apple's Database, you can upgrade to the latest 2.2 firmware and future firmware without any problems.

No need for sim adaptor. Just insert any sim in and away you go...!!! Will work with any Sim in any COUNTRY. (So International Bidders are WELCOME)

Just out of curiosity, what is the model number of your iPhone?

(It's normally in the About screen of the phone's GUI, but if that's not available to you right now, it ought to have been printed on the outside of your "sealed" packaging.)

Apple keeps a list of the countries in which the iPhone is sold, including an indication, for each authorized carrier, of whether the iPhone comes SIM locked out-of-the-box, of whether the carrier can perform an authorized unlock on the iPhone, and the iPhone model numbers sold in that country.

If your model number corresponds to an iPhone sold in a country/carrier that doesn't provide out-of-the-box unlocked iPhones, then it's definitely a fake.

Funny,
There was a time on these board were people didn't need to attempt to be so funny all the time...Okay, so the guy learned a difficult lesson, many of you don't need to pile it on...

That's a good way of finding out. Cheers for the info.
