May have finally found a laptop with decent dGPU and specs with design that doesn't scream gaming laptop, with good build quality and not too much of a brick at 4.2 pounds. Trying to get the price down closer to set budget before pulling the trigger.

I'm trying to find a model at Best Buy I can try. Same with Razer Blade 14. Let me know your thoughts when you buy it. Interested in the keyboard and track pad quality.

Nice machine...and I'm a big fan of Lenovo products (I've owned many over the years and currently own 2), but oof, that price! o_O I hope that you can get some additional discounts.

How did you get it so cheap. My work has something called passport but i think Lenovo calls this the affinity store.

I have a $100 off anything coupon but i cannot stack it.

Seems like the highest current discount is 7% military + 5% coupon + 6% Rakutan cashback (I forego the last one due to previous negative experience). Apparently, you can't stack coupons so I couldn't use the $50 off for signing up for their marketing. Feel free to use it if it works for you.

$50 off $1K or $100 off $2K coupon code

Otherwise, if you or family member is a Best Buy member wait for 10% off birthday coupon which will make it $1350 but with 512GB storage instead of 1TB but it has a second NVMe slot which you'll want to use anyway since games are so bloated.

Hey thanks for the reply. I tried Rakuten but they were only giving 6% on Lenovo via their phone app and then it wouldn't work with my work discount.

I tried to get Lenovo to price match the best Buy one and they said no because the best Buy one is a "3060 max q" and theirs is not.

I do like the option I posted though as it gives me windows 10 pro (I do like to use Windows Sandbox) But i would ditch that for $1350.

Not sure if I'd buy their Max-Q explanation. The important metric is Total Graphics Power (TGP). Looks like both the Lenovo and Best Buy versions are 100W TGP which seem standard for ~4 pound thin chassis.

Windows 10 Pro keys are cheap at ~$10 and plentiful. Even reused a Windows 8 Pro key for 10 Pro install recently for a new PC build and it took it so I won't argue.

If meeting a budget is a priority I'd go with Best Buy 10% off birthday option plus you get rewards back. Probably do it sooner rather than later since standalone dGPU demand is still outstripping supply so once people catch on that they can buy a laptop with dGPU for not much more it may impact dGPU laptop supply.

Here's as low as I could get the slim 7 for.

The best Buy birthday coupon looks good but i read they only generate the codes randomly at the end of the month and my birthday is July 1st. Plus they don't seem to send them out until 3 - 4 weeks.

Better specs with Legion 5 Pro if you don't mind the extra weight and keep it mostly deskbound.

There's also the soon to be released Legion 7 which is the more brawny version of the 7 Slim while retaining the design.

The internal design is also a looker.

Nice specs. 500 nits on the legion 7 screen is so much better than 300 nits on the OP slim 7 showing. As far as high prices, Lenovo will always have sales

It's looking like the 5 pro and 7 will have the same screen.

If the 7 was only $100 or $150 more I may go for it. But if it's $200 or more then no dice.

I'm still torn between the slim 7 and the 5 pro. I like all the stuff the slim 7 has like fingerprint reader, lighter, more usb c, memory card slot. I use all of that. But the 5 pro has the better 16:10 screen I like a lot more. I just don't want no finger print reader, extra plastic. Worse track pad.

No matter what the 7 costs I think I should go with the slim 7 just to make the backpack lighter 3 - 4 days per week.

Nice looking unit. For me personally it's a no go. Just can't adapt to an offset trackpad. OCD thing for me.

Dang! Black on black (PCB I mean - a nice to have) and symmetric design language...

I have seen under the bonnet of a few others...premium priced models with red or green PCBs...some even blue. Blue doesn't look so bad on some. I would just prefer color matching if at all possible.

Looks like a pretty sick machine all-around.

Just my $0.02

is a tough choice. I think with the higher resolution screen you would want to go with a 3070 minimum, which adds cost.

Yeah I wouldn't buy a 3060 in a laptop like that, it has plenty of thermal headroom. The 3070 is only like $150 CAD more IIRC.
