I'm pretty sure this is a bug. If you have a DVD in your optical drive, and you do anything along the lines of bring up a Save dialog, or Open dialog, the DVD spins up regardless of whether you actually clicked on the DVD.

No big deal? Well it causes a delay for all the files being displayed as it waits until the DVD has spun up. Really irritating - why does it spin up in the first place? I'd rather have a delay when I actually want to save or open from a DVD than for the DVD to spin up every bloody time!

And it seems to take a minute or so for the DVD to spin down, even though I'm not using it.

Anyone else in the same boat as me or does no one care?

Yeah it is annoying.

It more an annoying feature than a bug though.

It often reminds me to eject disks and put em away so I don't lose them!

Though reallt who uses disks much these days? All I ever have it are DVD's and they are either being watched of should be put away!

I doubt they will fix it because it's how it's meant to work/ Even if it is annoying!

It even spins up when I'm logging back in from having the screensaver on! Why on earth....?

Just a waste of time and creates annoying noise/vibration.
