Leopard Desktop Icons Issue help?

I just purchased the new macbook pro 13.3" with Leopard installed. The problem is, even if i have selected "keep arrange" selection by kind, I can't seem to find the "auto arrange" selection? Whenever I drag something to the desktop, it doesn't automatically align to the grid, it goes to where i dragged it. I want to be able to drag it and arrange itself to the grid automatically. Could someone please help? it's really annoying.

Right click on the desktop and select "Show view options".

A small window will open and there should be a drop down menu: select the option you want.

Yup! Did that! Still the same

Strange, is working perfectly for me. Are you sure you did it in the right window? Should be done here:

in the "Arrange by" menu at the bottom.

Yep! Did that already before I came to this forum. I'm at a loss why it doesn't do that. I never had this problem with tiger
