I'm now using Leopard but there are elements of it I just can't get my head around. Why is it that when I connect to another machine on the network, it’s drive icon doesn't appear on the desktop like it does in Tiger. Instead it appears in the sidebar of every window under 'Shared'. Can this be done?

check out what you have ticked in finder preferences under show these items on the desktop.

EDIT: too slow!

Thanks - brilliant help here as always, so...

Next question - how do I set up a grid for icons to snap to on the desktop?

Thanks in advance...
