Leopard: How to tweak spaces number key mappings?

I have set up nine spaces, three by three. I would like to use the number keys to navigate between them, but unfortunately it's rather counter intuitive since 7, 8 and 9 are the top three keys rather than 1, 2 and three.

Is anyone aware of a plist, terminal or some other hack whereas I could "flip" the numbers of the spaces to better correspond with the number pad in my case?
