my mail app opens on its own, as if it has found new mail, but there is none. i have changed the preferences to that it checks for mail only manually and even disabled the account, but that hasn't helped. even when i delete the account completely, mail still opens and prompts me to set up a new account. it seems that when i am on the internet, either with safari or firefox, something triggers it to open, but it has opened when neither of these programs are running.

anyone with any thoughts? please help ... it is driving me crazy.

it turns out that i had a program running in the background on startup that caused it ("SoonR Agent"). i removed it from my startup list (system preferences/accounts/login items). hope this helps.
