I've only recently upgraded to OSX Leopard (from Tiger) and one thing annoyed me from the start and I can't seem to figure out how to solve it.

In Tiger, when I dropped a file in a folder, all the files in the folder would realign and be sorted alphabetically, but in Leopard, I have to sort all the files manually over and over again.

Is there a way to solve this?

Thanks in advance

in that same window you will also have an option of "snap to grid" it will keep them automatically lined up regardless of your "arrange by" not being set.

the only thing i'm not sure of in leopard, is how to apply a "snap to grid" setting to ALL windows since that seems to have been take on out of the :apple:+j window setting box since tiger.

Well .. that's what I'm looking for.

Anyone else?

Final Solution

You can press Apple-J in the finder and choose the "arrange by" option.

I just upgraded to Leopard, and also shared your frustration. In addition to jstanier's recommendation, once you change the "Arrange by", click the "Use as Defaults" button at the bottom of that dialogue box in order to apply it to all folders.
