Hi all,

Has anyone done a usability study on the dark colours of window backgrounds and textured menus of Leopard vs non-brushed Tiger (or, if it's against some NDA, is there anyone outside Apple involved in studying usability of the various OS X releases as they come out)? I'mconsidering objective tests, such as placing randomwords in the menu bar / windows immediately after displaying a word in the centre of the screen, to see if time to find+click varies. Or such questions as, "Find the menu option which might adjust text height", where the option is "Change size" - in this case, the brain cannot simply search for the vague form of the word, but has to take in all the words and make a judgement.

I guess it's fairly obvious I'm going to conjecture that there is a significant difference if the contrast is good and the brain is not distracted by texture. This is even more relevant for people who prefer low brightness - easier on the eyes and on the screen, particularly if doing text work - or those who are not always looking at TN panels head-on.
