Ok I'm a new MacOSX user and have been a Hardcore Windows XP user since whenever it was released.

I've been trying out mac for some weeks now and one thing is just pissing me off is.. whenever I download a file with Safari.. Lets say a Zip or RaR file.. it will unzip this files, and then place the original zipfile into the Trash!

How do I disable this lunacy? seriously there is no order in my download folder when the OS starts to act on its own like this.. It's just annoying because it even starts unpacking large 2GB files which I DONT want.

I have something Leopard can unzip.

On a side note, what are the preferences in your zip program?

if u want to change this open up preferences in safari (i assume you're using safari) go to general and go down to "Open "Safe" files after downloading"
and uncheck the box

What?

I use the standard app in Leopard.. Archive Utility, Can't find any options for this app. I also have UnRaR installed but this does not have such option..

What I don't understand is how the operating system can just start unpacking my sh*t and then place it in trash without approval?

did u read my post?

Thanks man, didn't see your posted as we posted at the same time.

gotta be the stupidest option i've ever seen. But why does safari trash the zip files after auto unpacking?

There's no point to keeping 99% of zip files. I think I have only pulled one or two out of the trash in my lifetime after Leopard trashed it.

Good thing it's not required.

You must come from PC world :D
I came from there 5 days ago. And I actually like this auto unpacking feature. :p

Does anyone know how I can automate the "un-stuffit" of .sit files?
Many thanks!
