Hi,
Im planning on upgrading from my ibook to a macbook , but as you probably all know leopard is coming up and i don't really want to spend the extra 150 bucks in like a couple of months ( when leopard comes out ) . So if i buy a laptop right now , is there any chance i could get a discount ( or maybe even free upgrade) when leopard comes out?
Thanks in advance!
Ralph.

That's exactly why I am deferring a notebook purchase until Leopard release. That way I only have to purchase one copy :).

I believe in the past you got a free upgrade to Tiger if you purchased Panther after they announced the release date for Tiger. Maybe Leopard will work the same way - wait for them to announce a release date before buying Tiger.

The discount is usually within 45 days of purchase.

I have never heard of this, can you provide some context for this figure?

I found this press release from when Tiger came out and it supports this idea. the only way to be safe is to buy the new machine AFTER the leopard shipping date is OFFICIALLY announced.

Apple Press Release said:
The standard Mac OS Up-To-Date upgrade package is available to all customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after April 12 for a shipping and handling fee of $9.95 (US). Tiger requires a minimum of 256MB of memory and is designed to run on any Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G5, G4, or G3 processor and built-in FireWire®.
