if Apple’s figures are correct, less than four percent of Mac users perform regular, automated backups. The company hopes to change that with Time Machine, the built-in backup feature that will debut in Mac OS X 10.5.

So how well did Apple's Time Machine help? Do you do automated backups now?

I know that 3 years ago I didn't do automatic backups, but now I do.

ever since time machine and time capsule it was so easy and i don't even think about it. i forgot about it so much that when my drive died i was like s@$t i should have backed up then my girl friend pointed at my time capsule. i almost did a backflip. j/k im to old for that.

i actually use time machine and superduper on two seperate drives.

downfall of time machine is, if your hd fails, you can't boot up from your backup. But it makes backing up painless untill you have to use it.

Really? Hmm I did not know that.

I don't use Time Machine, purely because I don't have a suitable device to backup on.

If it worked with SMB shares I'd probably start using it.

I back up my personal folder (contains pics, school work, files etc) and music folder about once a month.

The rest I couldn't care less about. I can reinstall all my apps and I don't leave movies or any larger files on my laptop HD anyway.

yes, that is a weakness of time machine - it prevents you from getting back up and running immediately. But it certainly does work wonders if you can spare the time to get a new drive.

I didn't used to do automatic backups and do now. Moreover, I know a number of other far less tech-savvy people who never even would have thought to backup but do now because time machine/time capsule make it so effortless. It really was a brilliant idea by apple.

I'm to cool to back up. :D

Naw seriously... what I do on a computer, is all web-based, so unless the interwebz crashes, I'm fine.

Once I buy a Time Capsule I'll start backing up stuff.

I use both Time Machine backing up every 2-3 hours & SuperDuper! running every night (separate drives). Time Machine lets me look for older files. SuperDuper! gives me a bootable clone should I need it.
