So due to a slip-up on my part and some subsequent fraudulent charges on my Apple Card, I had to change my card number through the app yesterday. I then contacted all of my recurring payment vendors and made sure to update my Apple ID to use the new card number for Apple Pay.

Fast forward to this morning. I placed my order for my new iPhone and carried on with my day. While scrolling through the confirmation email I noticed my old card number was showing under billing. WTF.

Contacted Apple and was told they can't make changes once the order has been placed. I have my phone reserved for pickup on the 20th. Do you think they'll be able to make the change there? Will they try charging my card before that day and cancel my order due to the charge being declined?

Uh-oh, I think based what I've seen on other posts, when info has to be changed, i.e. card#, shipping address, etc. they cancel the order and make you reorder, I really hope I'm wrong here. Hopefully that's not the case for you.

I can’t remember exactly what it was, but last year there was something wrong with the card I used, and the payment wouldn’t go through. I received an email about it, and they gave me a certain time period, and just that chance to correct it, without cancelling my order.

Ughhhh...

I just don't understand where it got that card number! It's not in my Wallet app and it's not showing in my Apple ID settings under Apple Pay.

In the past, if Apple had a problem with billing your card, they send you an email asking you to provide an alternate payment method before canceling your order. You should be fine.

I decided to go into the Apple Store app and see if there was anything else I could find that might let me update my payment info. When I ran out of ideas I figured "why not try a second order to see if the same thing happens?".

Second order went through with a pickup date of 9/20 and it looks like it's just going to charge me the full amount rather than monthly payments like the first order. My second pickup window is three hours later so I guess if something goes wrong I have a backup plan. I'm pretty surprised there are still phones available for launch day pickup as I've seen a ton of people talking about their shipping dates slipping several weeks.
