I think it would have been better for apple to have not done iMessage. I think it would have been better for them to intergrate whats app into iOS 5 and to push the other platforms to do so. That would be better for everyone (unless you happen to be a carrier)

They're trying to bring people into the apple ecosystem, integrating whatsapp into iOS wouldn't have done that, whereas imessages could
