We're all obviously interested in the next iPhone, so why not look back to 2011 to see who was accurate on with last year's iPhone. Going thru the articles I feel like Apple planned on ONLY releasing the iPhone 4S all along and planned for the redesigned iPhone for Summer 2012.
Looking through the MacRumors Archives I found that 9to5Mac was right a LOT of the time. I think they have some of the best sources. Obviously there are sites that have completely legit sources.

It seems to me that a lot of the confusion stemmed from people not knowing whether it would be called the 4S or the 5, but people put 2 and 2 together when they found out it looked the same as the 4, but faster.
