Hey all,

Recently made the switch to Mac and got the new 16" MBP. However this one issue is interrupting my workflow and am looking for a solution...

So I mainly use the laptop in closed-lid mode and connect it via single Thunderbolt 3 cable to the monitor. It provides 4K60Hz, audio and the monitor charges the laptop whilst it is in use. This is all great until the laptop goes to sleep whilst connected.

When I wake the system up using my (bluetooth) peripherals, the monitor has switched to 30Hz and there is no option to change it. As well as this, the actual monitor it is saying it is using changes. It's weird because when it is working fine the monitor is listed as a 27" one when it is actually 32" (31.5). I can get it to fix by going into the monitor settings and switching to DP Mode: 1.2 from 1.4 then switch it back. Alternatively I can restart the system but this is not how I intend to use such an expensive setup.

So I am wondering, has anyone experienced something similar? Would a dock fix this solution do you think? FWIW I used my girlfriend's Macbook for the last few weeks in the exact same setup and didn't have this issue once. Very frustrating.

Don't have a good answer, but what if you run your monitor in DP 1.2 mode permanently? Does that work around the issue?

Problems like these are driver bugs usually.

Nope still get the same issue unfortunately. The only way to fix is to switch the DP mode or restart the computer.

yo Johnboy07,

I've got the same problem with same monitor and probably same book. Actually I am facing black screen when using permanently 1.4 dp version. I will try now the settings with permanent 1.2. also I will try many pmstates and keep u informed. this is annoying. if u got some solutions let me know also. ty
