$1,500 is a hefty price to pay, but if your line of work or wallet calls for it then by all means go for it. Also be sure to take some pictures and post them on the "mac setup past and present" in the picture gallery. I am waiting to see what the new rMBPs have in store for the "update", but if it is not my cup of tea I will be getting a macbook and buying an external monitor to pair with it.

No thanks. I'm enjoying my $549 LG 27" 4K USB-C monitor w/ HiDPI too much.

Have you had any kernel panics at all with the monitor? I just had one a minute ago when I plugged my MacBook to the monitor and tried to wake it up from sleep. I think I have found the trend where if the MacBook is in sleep mode for a long time (12+ hours and you are trying to connect it to the monitor there seems to be a problem)

Nope, not yet. I find that the computer behaves much better with USB-C connection than using the HDMI dongle on my work 4K monitor.
