I have a new macbook pro 15-inch and would like to have an externa screen. For some reason my company can not purchase the LG 5K screen. I want something similar preferably with convenient ports etc but I can of course get a usb c doing station to go with it if necessary.
Due to an eye problem i have 40 cm focal point and my cinema 27 inch led display had the perfect form factor.

Any suggestions for the display?

Nothing really compares with the LG 5K.

But in terms of a similar size the LG 27UD88 would be my choice. 27", so good for your eyes. 4K, which is as good as you're going to get other than the LG 5K. And USB-C with charging, so great for your MacBook.

I'd personally disagree with the poster above. The 27UD88 will not provide enough power to properly charge your 15 inch MBP. In fact using such a solution over a long period of time would likely cause significant, unnecessary stress on your battery.

But ya there really aren't any models which can truly compete with the LG 5K. No monitor out there will provide enough power to properly charge your MacBook.

Since you're looking for a one cable solution, I'd recommend getting a 27 inch 4K display coupled with a Thunderbolt 3 dock (i.e. Elgato or Caldigit). You can get both for around what you would pay for a USB-C monitor (like the 27UD88 or HP Envy). I personally have an LG 27UD69 and it's fantastic and well priced.

Changed my mind and bought the LG 5k.
wonderful!

I'm in the same position as you were before. I got the LG 4K but then the mouse just lags with it's dragged across. Also, with the Asus 27" 4K at 1080P resolution. I guess the scaling sucks. I am now thinking to bit the bullet and get a LG 5K.

I only had it a few days but no problems really appart from that the LG screen manager software is having an awful icon and functions that i often do not need.

4K, but at 60Hz? You may need a cable capable of doing 4K@60Hz that HDMI might not be capable of doing. That was the case with my LG 27UD69.

The LG 5K is awesome imo. There are a few bad units with some defects I'm sure but I've yet to come across a defective one in my line of work.

I have the LG Ultrafine 21.5 inch 4K personally and couldn't recommend it more. Awesome monitor!
