LG today announced that it will be offering a three-month free trial of Apple TV+ on select smart TV models from September 9 through November 17.

The offer will be available to new and "qualified" returning subscribers in both the Apple TV app and LG Streaming app in over 90 countries on 2018-2024 models of LG's 4K and 8K smart TVs, including StanbyME and StanbyME Go models.

The offer is part of LG Streaming Week.

Apple TV+ typically offers a free one-week trial, or a one-month trial with an Apple One package.

Apple TV+ is priced at $9.99 per month or $99 per year in the U.S. as an individual subscription. The streaming service provides access to Apple's library of original series and films, including hits such as The Morning Show, Ted Lasso, Silo, and Severance.

I just saw this popup on my C3, didn't click on it as I thought it would only be available to new customers, I cancelled Apple TV+ long ago...

I got a free three month trial when I purchased my MacBook Air. After that period I was done with it because the catalog of interest is very small. Some good shows for certain but it can’t compete with an Amazon prime for half the monthly price over here. I enjoyed 2 of the 3 months and than there wasn’t anything of my interests anymore.

I don't want a smart TV, I just want an amazing display panel that works with my devices of choice. Smart TV platforms are nothing more than systems designed to spy on you while selling your data to the highest bidder. In that LG is one of the worst offenders out there. They even use on device AI to analyze what you're watching even if you're using something else like an Apple TV or even a Blu-ray player. They scan the images (a "feature" that is on by default) and log your viewing habits. I get the $200 TV might need to subsidiaries to make a profit but how can they justify this on a $2000 TV?

No, three free months isn't good enough motivation buy into their scheme.

I have never paid for Apple TV and just wait till I pick up a free trial somewhere. The only show on Apple TV I care for is Foundation but the new season isn't coming out till '25 so there is no need for a free subscription now.

Problem is, where do you get such a tv that doesn’t have smart features?

Not if it's $9.99 a month after the trial period. AppleTV+ is not worth it with its current programming. $6.99 a month. Maybe.

Apple should kill Apple TV+ and instead, focus on fixing Apple TV issues, like Dolby Vision, lip sync issues, etc. and upgrading older movies to 4K. That'll provide far more value to consumers than Apple TV+ IMO.

Apple TV+ is the only TV subscription I keep as part of family premium bundle. It’s simple, not too much. Heck, I’m even starting to lose track of all the shows and movies, because they’re coming so fast. I don’t care about what’s great out there. I don’t want to scroll for hours to look for something to watch just because there’s too much available.

Slow Horses is probably my favourite. Silo, Sugar, Severance, etc just to name a few of the great shows.

So 3 months on my LG, 3 months on 16 pro, 3 months on Mac mini - do they even have that much content?

They should kill both.

Concentrate on not shipping the same iPhone 4 years in a row
I upgraded from a 12 Pro to a 15 Pro, and it’s better in every way. It’s not the same. Maybe you thought you bought an upgraded phone and got scammed? Thats the only way your comment makes any sense at all.

Just don’t hook it up to the internet

Problem solved

If you disconnect it from the Internet, what is it going to do with that info? I disconnected my Samsung TV from the Internet the day is started showing me adverts in the UI and bought an Apple TV (something I originally figured I'd only do the day the TV became too old the in-built apps stopped working)

Depends on your interest. If you like Disney like sweet and moralistic and don’t watch more than an hour per week, Apple TV is your thing. If you like Sons of anarchy, animal kingdom, The boys, look elsewhere and get an even cheaper subscription with tons of titles to choose from.

Yeah See, Servant, Silo, Black Bird and Serverance are all so sweet and moralistic. I feel like I’m lying on a huge bed of soft, slowly rising bread dough while I watch those shows.
