Fixed a problem by switching the supplied USB-C cable
Using a j5create USB 3.1 Type-C to Type-C Coaxial Cable.

MacBook was crashing/restarting about 10% of the time when asleep for an hour or so
And about 50% of the time overnight.
In other words a crash almost everyday
Switched to the j5create cable and no crashes for a week
Switched back to the LG supplied cable and crashes started again.
So back to the j5create cable
And no crashes for past 2 weeks.
Also, unrelated, the LG software update fixed the unable to wake monitor issue.
Prior to the cable fix had been on the phone a few times with Apple
Was handed over to senior engineer type
Deleting some plist files - com.apple.windowsserver.plist
SMC NVRAM reset
Shutting down a bunch of apps...etc...
None of this worked
I like this monitor
Great display. And good integration with MacBook
But really crap execution by LG
