I'm looking at purchasing an LG UltraFine 5k display, but before I do, I'm wondering if it can be connected to both a Mac and PC at the same time. My thinking is to have my Mac mini connected to it via the thunderbolt port, then have my PC connected to it via an HDMI to USB-C cable routed through a KVM so I can quickly switch the mouse, keyboard, and display back and forth as needed.

Is it possible to get a display signal from the USB-C ports on the back of the monitor or is it only the thunderbolt port which provides a display signal?

@grogboshie There is only one input port on the 5K Ultrafine and that gives 5K with a cable from a TB3/4/5 Mac or TB3 PC with graphics added to the signal.

If you connect a USB-C cable to a 5K Ultrafine sold after 2019 (27MD5KL, 27MD5KL-B or 27MD5KLP-B model) it will give a 4K image on the screen.
The earlier (27MD5KA) model was TB3 only.

As to a 5K KVM switch?
There are hundreds of pages of replies here at MR and no real answer that is easily found.
It’s a 2016 monitor design that runs on obsolete technology… 😵‍💫

The only possible solution seems to be a Sabrent TB4 KVM switch, using only TB4 cables for all connections, which is an expensive setup:

Thank you @PaulD-UK

It is sad because I think this is the only truly TB4 KVM in the market, there are no more options and if you want to switch in between mac and pc using a studio display pro or an lg ultrafine, you will have to spend this type of money.

SABRENT KVM Switch, USB-C, 1 PC to 2-Displays with 60 Watt Power Delivery (USB-CKDH)
