LG's UltraFine 5K Display now ships in 1-2 business days on Apple's website in the United States and Canada, signaling that the display is finally back in stock after having been backordered for up to 4-6 weeks due to an interference issue.

Specifically, some users experienced flickering issues with the UltraFine 5K Display when it came within close proximity of a Wi-Fi router, or in some cases, simply made contact with a MacBook Pro. LG apologized for the issue last month and said all models manufactured after February 2017 would be fitted with enhanced shielding.

Apple stopped sales of the LG UltraFine 5K Display at its retail stores and delayed shipments on its website about a month ago while LG worked on the fix, and it appears the issue is now resolved.

Those who purchased an UltraFine 5K Display prior to February can contact LG to have their model retrofitted with the same improved shielding.

LG's UltraFine 5K Display is still on sale for $974 until March 31, when the price will return to $1,299.95. Longer shipping times are still quoted in some other regions, such as Singapore and the United Kingdom.

Do you guys think the next 12" MacBook might have thunderbolt 3 support on its USB C port? I need to get a monitor but I don't want the 4K one because it's vastly inferior in many ways.

That's actually quicker than I anticipated. But then again it was likely a minor turn around to retrofit the shielding. Especially for the amount of units to repair.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for my two LG 5K monitors to be 'fixed'. Already purchased another two monitors, these are going on sale in a heart beat. Not interested anymore.

Don't worry guys!
Still the great 14 day return policy and the inspiring 1 year LG warranty with no AppleCare options.

Whip out those VISA's and call us in 13 months to let us know how "image retention" is going!

I had an LG tv awhile back. It broke and I had two tv repair men try to fix it. They were unable to resolve the issue then my year warranty expired. I will never buy LG again

I'd feel confident about buying one if there was a guarantee that they'd work with future iMacs. Or Mac Pro if Apple is still interested in that market.

I own an LG plasma made in 2015. Randomly turns itself off every few hours. Owned an LG monitor in 2013, which also turned itself off and was fixed under warranty. Then owned an LG G4... which means I can no longer ever recommend LG as an alternative to Samsung. Really unfortunate.

Is this possible with the Intel Core M chipset?

At one point, I'm sure I heard that the Kaby Lake chips were going to have integrated Thunderbolt - so a MB could have included it without needing to find space for a discrete controller - but I haven't seen it confirmed lately, and can't see it anywhere in the Intel specs, so maybe that didn't materialize.

The other question is whether the GPU would have enough grunt to drive 5k.

I'd feel confident about buying one if there was a guarantee that they'd work with future iMacs. Or Mac Pro if Apple is still interested in that market.

That feature seems like a no-brainer - I'm sure it will, but you're not gonna get a guarantee until the machine is announced. Methinks that if the future iMac can't drive an external 5k display via TB3 then buying a future iMac would be a socially irresponsible failure to vote against Apple with your wallet...

The Mac Pro... would you invest in a Mac Pro given that the last one has been left for so long with neither an update nor a price cut to reflect its maturity? The current iMac, by contrast, is pretty up-to-date and only really needs a couple of TB3 ports (preferably not at the expense of everything else).

The dealbreaker for me with this display is that it will only work with Thunderbolt devices. No plugging in other DisplayPort or HDMI devices (even at lower res). If you only have post-2011 Macs then maybe that isn't a problem.

They should just keep the price at $974 now. Upping the price at this point will achieve nothing but tick people off.
If they want to tick people off, do it in an unexpected manner: Lower the price. All those who have already purchased will be livid.

Or to REALLY tick people off, keep the price the same. Then people here will scream that the "sale price" was a scam.

Let's see-- logically the three worst things they could do would be to lower the price, raise the price, or keep the price the same. Clearly, they should go with option #4.

Option 4 won't be available until the fourth quarter of the year when they announce a new in house designed and built 42 inch 8k Cinema monitor. The price will probably be a hundred bucks or so more.

LG stopped making plasma TVs in 2014.

Further their LCD and OLED TVs have been quite reliable and they have stood behind their warranties.

Having recently built a Kaby Lake Linux box, I can tell you that at least for existing motherboards and i7 CPUs:

1) No integrated Thunderbolt
2) intel HD integrated graphics max out at 4K/24 Hz or WQHD at 60 Hz.

[doublepost=1488922313][/doublepost]My Apple Store won't handle the repair, says I should contact LG. That's a sucky solution. I think I should be able to go in and exchange my flawed but nearly new display for the new ones at the Apple Store, given that I ordered from the Apple online store and picked up both monitors at Apple Stores.

My Apple retail store business team have been trying unsuccessfully to obtain replacement stock of the 5K display for a couple of weeks and called me yesterday to advise me that the best bet is for me is to return the 2 displays I bought (which are now well outside the 14 day warranty) and order new displays online.

However, when I said I was happy to order the new displays in advance of getting a refund for the original ones, they then said I could keep the original ones until I receive the new ones. They were trying to avoid me having to be out of pocket for 4 displays until the refund went through but I don't mind because I can do it on my credit card and the refund will offset the purchase soon enough.

I can't compliment the business team enough really because they have been as helpful as possible under difficult circumstances and are doing their best to avoid any inconvenience to me. My original displays are definitely affected by the WiFI interference but I can tolerate it for another 1-2 weeks until the new displays arrive. I only lose sync maybe twice a day at the moment having moved my Time Capsule as far as possible away from the displays.

Still a stunning display once the kinks are worked out. I personally think the full asking price is good and people like me and others who have inadvertently acted as beta testers should IMHO benefit from the reduced prices to compensate for inconvenience. People who have waited until April 2017 should pay the full price for a (presumably) working display. :p

Happy you got good service, but the rest of your post iso_O
That reduced price was to entice people to buy and wait. It's pretty easy to offer a reduced price when there's no product to be had. Then the product turned out to be insufficiently shielded. It's debatable whether the monitor was worth the original asking price. The product they put out definitely wasn't. I'm more inclined to believe Apple's not stupid. They'll leave the current price alone in the hopes that people will actually buy it.
