I'm running OS X 10.8.5 and use LibreOffice for spreadsheets and other documents. Last time I installed the 64bit version, but I see the latest update notification takes me to the page for the x86 32bit application:
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/?type=mac-x86&lang=en-US&version=4.2.4

But when I open safari and go to the libreoffice.org download page, I get taken to a page which offers the 64bit download:
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/

Is there any reason to prefer the 32bit vs the 64bit version?

LibreOffice 32bit or 64bit

Hello,
probably the website does a wrong guess about the machine you're working on.
I suppose you should run 64-bit applications on 64-bit hardware.

Then again, since I found some strange bugs in the MAC version of LO,
that don't exist in the 32-bit version for XP, it makes me wonder if
the 32-bit version is the same program.
Now, installing and uninstalling such software on OSX is a piece of cake
on OSX (compared to other OS's), so we both could find out which version
is better. Hint: the bug I found (which was not fixed yet) is damage to
URL's in a table when clicked in sequence.
And I still wonder in what language all these LO versions have been written.
If they're not the same, it would not be a good case.
;JOOP!

Thanks - I'm going to try the 64bit LibreOffice again - as you mentioned, if there are any problems it's a simple matter of installing the 32bit version.

Hi,
I just uninstalled my 64-bit version and installed the 32-bit version of the 4.2.4:
..............
well, exactly the same bug.
So I may conclude that the bit-width doesn't matter much and
so I returned to the latest 64-bits version and will wait for repairs ......
Btw.: the 32-bit version won't address more than some 1500Mb internal
but I guess that's enough for you.
