Life expectancy of Airport Extreme & Decision Making.

Hello!

My Time Capsule (500 GB) just died today, suddenly, and I am not savvy enough to change the Power Supply myself.

Now I am thinking of buying an Airport Extreme and plugging in an external Hard Drive. But I was just wondering, does the Airport Extreme have the same life span of the TC (which I read on MR, is 18 to 20 months)? Or does it last longer?

This will help me decide whether or not to get another TC or a AE.

If you're wondering why I am buying another Apple router that is known to die, it's because i use Air Play and I have two Airport Expresses still alive.

And apparently the TC is covered under AppleCare...

But I have a question - I just bought a MacBook Air in August 2011, and my Time Capsule died today. It's the 500GB version. If I bring it to the Apple Store (I live in Canada), they will fix it for me?? or is it too old??
