I was going through old receipts and started calculating how much I spent on Apple products.

I was surprise that I have spent about the cost of a Japanese car over the last 13 years.

More surprisingly, ~48% of the spent was on Mac laptops. iPhone and iPad together equates to about ~29%.

What about you? how much have you spent so far and what were some surprises you have found?

My entire apple product history as best I can remember.

Bold are daily use devices. Numbers are the approx price I paid. Sum is ~$9,600 not taking into account the resale amounts

Brilliant idea on getting used mac instead of new. Save so much and still get value out.

I would have to formulate a calculation, but at least $25,000 over the last 25 years. Maybe I will have to do so soon, I keep all my receipts for big purchases so I should still have them all. Just a matter of finding them...

yes, it took me a whole day to go through the past purchases.

Love to see what you come up with.

One of the best purchases I've ever made was a new-in-box 2015 MBP in early 2017. 16GB/250GB config for right around $1000. Still running strong (I'm typing on it now) and really have no reason to upgrade. :)

I shudder to think what I have spent, going back to my first Apple ][ in 1978. Got a "Fat Mac" 512k in 1985. Have bought SO many Apple products for myself and family members. It's certainly well into six figures. Not to mention systems I bought at work.

The 2015 MBP is a work horse. I believe there is a forum exist in Macrumors that talk about how to upgrade the storage. Yes, storage upgrade for 2015 MBP is possible.

Yes, while I haven't spent six figures into apple product, it's definitely more than what I anticipated. Hence I wonder whether people have counted how much they have spent.

A lot. And I’ve only been at it since 2011. Probably almost every device they’ve released since then... and a lot of earlier ones too, albeit the used ones are mostly for resale.

I counted and I think I've had, going back to 2000: 12 Macs, 9 iPhones, 3 iPads, 2 apple watches, two sets of AirPods, one time capsule, and 5 iPods. I might be missing a Mac or two... How much it all cost... no way I can reconstruct the actual purchase prices going back 20 years, but on average, I'd estimate:
  • Macs - $1300
  • iPhones - $650
  • iPads - $500
  • Watches - $500
  • AirPods - $200
  • Time capsule - $400
  • iPods - $150
Some of those were gifts, but I've also given apple products as gifts, so I'll call that a wash. So that's a total estimate of right around $25,000 over 20 years. I spent a whole lot more on new apple products when I was younger (and had much less money to spend!). I keep my devices a lot longer now.

I resold most of those devices while they were still worth a fair amount, so on a lot of them, my net cost is probably like half, but I just went with what I paid up front and didn't net out the re-sales.
