So I picked up a MBP 13.3" and since the first thing I do is look for dead pixels by putting on a solid colour screens, I couldn't help notice this light leaking from a few spots around the outer edge of the screen. In between the screen and the rubber gasket. It is seen in a very dark room, with a black background and a high brightness. The only reason I had an all black screen on at high brightness was because I was looking for dead pixels when I bought it. I can't see it when I watch video or when I'm browsing or any other times.

Now after doing some reading it looks like this is extremely common but I was wondering if anyone knew how this is happening ? Does this leave room for dust to show up inside the display ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I had a tiny leak at the bottom of the screen on my 2017 15" (before getting the display replaced under warranty for dead pixels :3)

If it really bothers you, you might be able to get it fixed under warranty, but it's not a biggie IMO.

Dust can't get inside the display, because the LCD panel is fused to the glass. There's no gap for dust to get into.

Hey thanks for the reply. So if the lcd is fused to the glass than how would the light be leaking out ? From the actual light behind the lcd in the back and not the display reflection ?

Not entirely sure - there's a diffuser behind the LCD which provides the backlighting. Presumably the bezel is just a thin membrane of plastic, and there's a little bit of light from the diffuser making it to the outer edge of the bezel, from behind the LCD.

Edit: Found a neat video of taking apart the display assembly:
You can see that the LCD panel is glued to the lid at the bezels, and how the white diffuser just sits behind it.

Awesome thanks for that video ! Yes so it looks like there may be some tiny gaps in the adhesive attaching the screen to the lid instead of the glass and lcd not being fused together properly.
