Hey Guys,
So, I went to the Genius bar to fix light leaks/black bands (see attached picture) about a month half ago ago. They wanted to replace the display but didn't have the part in-store so they told me they would order it. Two weeks pass by and I finally get a call saying that they would have to ship it to depot to repair it (-_-). Okay fine - shipped to depot - took two days (just in time before I went on vacation) and I got it back so I took it with me. I can clearly see that the display has been replaced. *Note: bear in mind that when machines are sent to Apple depots for repair, they'll repair any other issues besides the initial problem it was sent in for*
Two days after I get it back, the issue is still there but I can't go to store since I'm overseas and don't want to deal with this issue. I take pictures every time these black bands occur and I realize it has becomes frequent.
So, today when I had the chance, I went to the Genius bar to see what is up and the technicians says he wants to ship it back to depot (5-7 days) to replace the logic board. Do you guys think this will solve the issue? Then, he says it might also be the OS, but I didn't have this issue for 3 years so I really don't think it is an OS issue. Furthermore, I'm skeptical to do because 1) I leave the country again for a study abroad in 2 weeks and I really need the computer for various things before I leave and 2) I really don't want to initiate a cat and mouse game with Apple tech.
What do you think is the cause of this issue - logic board or faulty Nvidia card (but I don't have any flickering or screen issues beyond this black bands) or etc?
And if you were me, what do you think I should do? - deal with it, try this logic board repair, or talk to a manager or ...?
Thanks.
Oh, this issue hasn't occurred until 2 days before my APP expired.
