I always cover the cameras with a sticker (on all devices except my phone). I have never noticed any openings for the LED and the ambient light sensor on my MacBook. Are they behind the plastic? I am just curious. I deleted photobooth, and FaceTime, so I will never have a need for the camera. I only see it a a potential security risk.

I do use the camera on my phone, and I still own a Cannon EOS. i have never used the camera on my iPad. I do not see the point.

I have seen that page. Unfortunately it is out of date, or something. I have examined the area to the left and right of the camera with a magnifying glass, and with a watchmakers 10x magnifier. There is no hint of a dimple, or anything. :eek:

I removed the sticker. Now the light sensor is working. It appears that the camera is serving as the light sensor, and the LED has been removed.

Apple uses lasers to create microscopic holes in the AL to let light through for the sensor and LED. You won't be able to see them, even with 10x magnification.

If you turn the camera on, you will see the LED light up. I'm surprised you haven't tried this yet.

Will have a look later. I am not a facetime or photobooth user. I deleted them, so I will use a command line utility to turn on the camera so I can see the LED (just for curiosity).

The microscopic holes are a very interesting idea. In a way, the macbook is a work of art.

I pulled out my mini 50x magnifier. I can see the tiny holes where the sensor, and LED reside. I placed a smaller sticker over the camera.

Thanx;

It was only two weeks ago that you were complaining that your MacBook was a very expensive mistake. Good to see that you might be warming up to it a little.

Thanx

It was not a wise investment, but at least I will learn my way around another OS.

I have paid the bank card off, in full, now so it is now only "cash under the bridge". The magic thing about money is you get more every month. :p
