light speed silicon by intel - any thoughts?

check out this article. intel is doing essentially fiber optic communication with infrared light at 1GHz in silicon. this could be really huge, i think. especially if this technology could ever replace clock lines, or other data buses. i didn't realize that this technology was so close to happening. any thoughts?

Cool. I have a feeling that right now computers are a bit stalled, and in a few years another huge leap is going to take place. I don't know what kind (virtual reality, holograms, artificial intelligence, etc.) but it's only a matter of time.
