Hi,

I am considering upgrading my desktop (an intel Mac Mini) to either a Mini M4 Pro or a Studio M4 Max. Would I be able to reuse the lighting port magic keyboard and trackpad or would I need to also get the USB-c ones ?

(I may eventually get them, as I will probably redeploy the old Mini elsewhere, but would prefer not to buy all in the same time).

Thanks!

The lightning and USB-C versions of accessories will work exactly the same irrespective of which port they have.
I have been using lightening versions for years with my USB-C only MacBooks perfectly fine, and intend to use them with my new Mac Studio when it arrives too.

I do not charge them via the computer though - I plug the USB straight into my wall outlet, which has USB ports.
If you want to cable them to the computer for charging then you will need a USB-C to Lightning cable, or pick up some cheap USB to USB-C adapters ;)

Many thanks, I wanted to check I am not missing a compatibility issue somewhere.

I recall some posts about compatibility issues with older Apple bluetooth keyboards on the m4 Mini shortly after it was released. Don't recall the details, sorry. Found this with a quick search, not sure if it's related. But there were other posts, I remember because I got a new USB-C Magic Keyboard with my m4 Mini and responded to one or more threads that I wasn't having any issues. I don't think the problems were all that serious though, so maybe just give it a try and you could always get a new keyboard later?

Thanks for all the answers. I will keep in mind the link to that thread in case something goes wrong. My new mac (M4 Max Studio) is ordered, so I will see how it goes...

My Studio arrives tomorrow and I'm in the same boat - my keyboard/mouse/trackpad are all lightning based. Personally I'm not expecting any issues at all. Will connect via cable initially to pair, before disconnecting and [hopefully] use as normal....
