Lightning audio adapter

Do I need to purchase a lightning audio adapter for the new iPhone 8? I wasn't sure if they've been shipping with the previous model and would like to be prepared.

I'm not seeing the iPhone 8 on Apple.com so it's hard to say.

I don't use Bose headphones, so it's not really a universal answer.

There is no universal answer

Ditch whatever Apple offers in the box and get quality headphones that have lightning capability or get a used Iphone 6s. Wireless if you want, but having had all three options available the personally the lightning headphones with DAC have been the best option.

I keep this on my keychain at all times, just in case.

I do use wireless, but I also use wired headphones with the adapter. No sense in replacing a good set of wired headphones with another set of wired headphones just to get a different plug.
