I bought a braided lightning cable to better withstand the sun in my car (my Apple one has started to crack and expose the cables). I'm wanting to put this new cable into my ProClip USA holder, but the housing around the lightning connector is a lot thicker and longer than the Apple one.

Does anyone know if these 3rd party cables are thicker there due to internals taking up more space or would I be able to shave away some of that thickness to match the size of Apple's own cable?

I got to review those vibe cables! They work great. I have many cables with larger ends. I think it is larger because it will be more durable and the metal design takes up more space as well.

Actually Apple has rules for MFi cable--the max thickness is 6.25mm and 12mm for width.
