the stock lightning cable seems to give me a message that it is not supported, when my phone reaches 100% is this normal? Maybe an IOS8 bug?

Either an iOS 8 bug or your cable is broken.

Sometimes the cable breaks and you can't even see that it's broken, but it will result in that message.

hmmm.. its a brand new cable that came with my IP6, it only really happens when my phone reaches 100% charged

It's still defective. Take a pic and return for a replacement. It could stop working all together but it's not likely to improve.

Hah. Glad to see this.
While this doesn't happen with the original lightning cable and charger,
it happens with another one from my iPad Air.
I suppose it has to do w/ the current and cable-resistance in my case, as I have it attached to an USB extension chord (although it is indeed weird it only happens when it reaches a 100%)

leaving the charger in there after getting the message, even though it does not look like it is not charging anymore, I really think it is. I have been streaming music for like a half hour and it has not moved beyond 100%
