Lightning to 30 Pin adapter doesn't fix OtterBox

I got this in yesterday and was not happy it would not plug in to my phone with it in the OtterBox Defender case. BUT with a little trimming to the OtterBox case it fits just right. Fortunately OtterBox has 3 tabs that hold the charger port cover in place on the case. I just trimmed the sides but the top tab still hold the silicone tab in place no problem. Actually the silicone flap was always a little hard to pull out of the way so you could charge your iPhone 5. I think in the end I should have just ordered a new charging cable. Just want to pass this on I'm sure I'm not the only one using a OtterBox.
