The thing worked the first day outputting audio to my DAC. Now it works for about 10 seconds then spits out the following:

"This accessory is not supported by this device."

I've tried it with just the adapter plugged into the phone and nothing plugged into the other end. I've rebooted my phone to no avail. The adapter was bought from an Apple store a couple days ago - so it's not a knockoff. I've seen the Apple Store reviews and there are a ton of one star ratings with complaints that people have to keep exchanging these things.

Is this true? Did I get a dud or is there a software workaround? Like I said, it works for 10 seconds before the error comes up...

Just take it back and they'll exchange it for you. I had to have one exchanged because it would charge no matter which side it was plugged in, but would only output audio in one orientation.

Exchange it where your purchased it from.

hi, good to hear that i'm not the only person on this planet having this problem :)

i bought the cable 3 days ago here in Austria/Europe in an official Premium Reseller Store. So it's not fake. They exchanged the cable, still not working. apple Hotline told me that they have no Problems reported for the MD824 cable. can't be!!!!! i guess it's a bug in Ios 7.0.6.
i hope more people call them. so big A reacts.

Greetings from Vienna

Hmm. I bought my Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (cable version) from Best Buy a day before they were supposed to put them on the shelf, and its still working great to this day. Use it with my Altec Lansing speaker dock.

Return it to Apple, get a replacement and try it again. Probably just got a dud.

Unbelieveable but true...today i bought cable number 4 and this one works. :)
Seems that Apple has production problems. 3 out of 4 cables (bought in 3 different stores) defect.
