Lightroom and GPU

i shoot alot of RAW photos.
i currently use Aperture on my iMac G5 1.5gbRAM.
I have been using Lightroom on a MacBook and have noticed that it is pretty quick. I was suprirsed being that the macbook has integrated graphics.

Does lightroom not rely on the GPU as much as Aperture does?

It must not, because I am running an ibook with 32mb ati 9550 and it runs a little bit slow but i only have 512 mb of ram and a slow processor.
