Hi

asking a selfish question as I only know for certain the answers will benefit me ;).

I am using a M1 8GB 13inch for Lightroom and Photoshop use. I am not a professional I am a passionate photo enthusiast. I got the 512GB HD which is too small and looking to benefit from the slightly bigger screen etc.

Will the Pro with 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine with 16Gb ram be enough for LR and PS? Note, Not having many slowdowns on my 8GB model But thought I would ask.

The 512gb hard drive shouldn't be too small...unless you don't use external hard drives to store your photos.
16gb RAM should be more than enough for now and until you replace the machine.

Although I am ordering a 14' MBP, that is not my main computer for Lightroom and Photoshop: I use a 27" iMac.
LR and PS benefit hugely from as large a screen as possible, more that just about anything else, as the panels take up a lot of the screen.
If this is going to be the only computer you use for LR and PS, I suggest consider the 16". Only $200 more for the same config. Or use an external display.

Hi

I tend to have a few days out with the camera and then not having time to process the files for a few months so they all add up over time and that along with some home videos and my photo lib which is over 115GB soon fill the HD. I have had to move files to external drives and then I find I don’t have them with me. So in summary be better to have a larger HD.

Hi

usually the 13inch works well but when I want the extra space I have the G9 49inch screen to connect the MacBook to. Works well :)

Thanks all, appreciated the responses.

Well that is what I bought for my own use (though I did bump the ram to 32). I think it should be fine at 16 though, I just hedged to future-proof a bit in case I end up moving to a 45MP camera or need to edit some high-pixel panoramas, as I occasionally do.

If you're having storage problems you can always look into an external SSD. I used a samsung t5 on my last editing laptop and was pretty happy with how it performed. There are faster drives out there now too.

Thanks yes have the T5.

For the camera I am Currently using the Leica Q2 and Q2 mono. Love both. :) even though the files are large. That said the M1 even with 8gb ram has been good.
