Just looked in settings on my iPhone 5s and under profile, "com.lightspeedresearch...." is listed along with an expiration date (August 2013 - August 2014). There is an option to remove it but first I'd like to know how it got there and what, exactly, it is. Does anyone know?

Did you install an app to take surveys, like the ones provided by https://www.surveysavvy.com/?m=375454 . Or a similar vendor? You can get an IDEA of what com.lightspeedresearch might be by going to lightspeedresearch.com.
You must have installed an app of some type, maybe to track your browsing habits, and earn a few minutes for the effort.
Further googling suggests that you may have installed https://www.mysurveymobileconnect.com/Help/DownloadInstructions/MySurvey.aspx
It is possible that you may have installed it on another device, and the profile got moved over with some iCloud sync or something?
