Lightweight Image Editing App?

hi

i'm new to OSX and need a lightweight image app. I mean really lightweight. I take a lot of screenshots, annotate them, and then paste into email. On windows I would take a screenshot, paste it into Irfanview, add some arrows and highlight to certain aspects, paste, and go.

is there an app like this in OSX? I prefer built into the OS but don't see anything. 3rd party is fine, but free is a requirement.

OMG perfect and right under my nose. I thought it was just a PDF viewer, but just found the sidebar and annotation tool.
