Now all the rest of the product line-up is going flat sided, will the Apple Watch likely follow suite with its next update?

Would the flat design actually work as a watch?

It could happen, as there are watches with more square sided profiles. But it being rounded helps you put your hand in your pocket or arm in the sleeve of your jacket without snagging.

So I doubt they will go too square in profile, personally.

Before my Apple Watch I wrote a Rado:

I'm in two minds about waiting for the next update. I'm imagining they'll keep current design for the SE just as they're doing with the iPhones.

I think it could work. It would still have rounded corners, just totally square edges and sides. Your Rado is actually the inverse, sharp corners with curved face!

What that photo doesn’t really show is that the face is quite curved, and the band and face all form a continuous curve of material. But the sides are indeed square.

I wore Garmin watches before moving to Apple Watch. Rounded body/face, generally sharp squared off edge profile. Never had any issues with them.

Whatever design changes Apple might make with a S7 or S8 watch, I believe it highly improbable the design won't accept existing bands. So many people are heavily invested in the band ecosystem that Apple would face serious blowback.

That then imposes some degree of constraint on how different a new design might be.

We shall see. I've no issues with the existing design.
